Happy 6th birthday to US  US-Aircraft.com is 6 today.  so I suppose that means we have reached toddler status!!!  To celebrate, we have rearranged the front page to give it a slightly better look, and eliminated the old bulletin boards.  I wish to thank everyone for their patronage, and continued support. - cheers! Mike

1/6/07

You asked for it, we finally got to it, and figured it out.  As you all have been following, the issues with the old boards have been long and arduous.  We have launched a New General Discussion Board.  There are a few issues still I personally would like to see fixed, such as a way to return to US-Aircraft.com from the new board format.  I will have to figure out how to do that, but this SHOULD fix our SPAM problems.  I encourage all of you to register, then let fly with questions, comments, and good old fashioned hangar talk and conversation.  At the moment, I have set the registration requirements to a bare minimum, however, I can choose the level of registration to the extent that I would personally have to approve each registrant, if needed, before they can post.  Let's hope we don't have to go to that extent.  This SHOULD,  however, keep the spiders from crawling all over us.  Once we have tested it, and generally decided to call it good, or not, I believe we can use it as a portal to all the boards from looking at the admin features I have tested so far.  So pull on up a chair, and lets enjoy that fellowship, research, and discussion we all enjoy - cheers!  Mike

12/705

Today, December 7, 2005, we take a moment to honor those that gave their lives on this day in 1941, at Pearl Harbor.  Today, my friend Natahn Milarta shall be hosting a day on the General Discussion Board about all things Pearl Harbor including the opportunity to speak with a Veteran from the Pearl Harbor raid.  Definitely check it out, and a huge Tally HO! to Nathan.

5/26/05

OK, it's been a while, but we have made some minor updates which include a new Monthly topic on the Monthly Topic Page.  This time it is the Pacific Theater of Operations.  Obviously also we have had a few attacks upon the pages this month by some incredibly annoaying bots.  We are working with Dave Pluth to rid us of these pests.  Please bear with us, as we fix things, and keep right on discussing the issues of Military history near and dear to your heart.  Also you will notice that I raitonalized the main page, so things are not as spread out, or convoluted.  I hope this will ease navigation.  If time allows, I shall get some additional updates completed soon.  Cheers - Mike

9/6/04

So, what happens when the guy in the cubicle next to you happens to be a semi professional photographer, and mentions he is going to the Pima Air Museum in Arizona?  You ask him to bring back LOTS of photos!!!!  Richard Leek of Rich Photos did exactly that for us, and the results are outstanding.  If you have never been to this museum, then here is a photo tour of Pima, and the treasures it holds.  Thanks Richard.  The Leek Collection - Part II (Pima Air Museum Photos)  KUDOS must also go out to our esteemed webmistress Tanya for getting all the photos reformatted into something that would work for us on the website.  It was a very long and tasking enterprise, taking a LOT of time.  Thanks Tanya.  Now that the days of summer are drawing to a close here in the USA, you will see more updates once again.  I hope everyone enjoys the new material as much as we enjoy getting on the pages to you.  Cheers - Mike

8/24/04

So here we are once more.  US-Aircraft.com obviously took a bit of time this summer to slow down, and collect our breath.  It was nice to have a vacation from the updates, and it gave us to look at some of the submissions we have received to start getting them ready for you to enjoy.  There will be minor changes coming soon to the sections on the site, and some of the older material is going to go away.  So if you like the Airshow photos, and the like, download them now!!  Essentially, the walk arounds, and the galleries are not going away anytime soon, but we want to rotate some of the content to keep it fresh, new and exciting.  Coming soon are some more great feature photo shoots that I beleive will blow you away.  I know I quite enjoyed them when we recieved them.  Welcome back from summer break, and to get things started, we bring you a selection of the summer's AMS Chronicals.  Here are the one and only Denver IPMS Newsletters  for June, July and August.  I hope you enjoy them as much as we all do. Cheers - Mike & Tanya

5/15/04

Today we bring you the latest creation from Clint Bauer, this is an F4U-1 from VF-17 .  A great rendition of one of the aircraft other than Ira Kepford's Aircraft.  Well Done Clint.

4/6/04

Here we are again.  Thanks to our esteemed webmistress Tanya, we have more stuff.  Tonight Igor Svetlov from Darmstadt Germany presents to us his Dragon/Hasagawa Lockheed P-38J-5 Lightning  Now at first blush this is great work, and enough to persuade at me never to enter a contest aginast him, but then once you realize this is in 1/72nd scale, all you can say is that Igor is a Genius!!!!  This is incredible work.  Great Job Igor!!!    Cheers - Mike

4/5/04

Tonight brings us back from a month of getting other stuff done.  Soccer has started, and the International Speech Contest.  (I choked at the Division Level....)  Seriously though as spring comes on, the outdoor activities increase, but the updates roll on .  We bring you tonight the next 2 editions of the A.M.S. Chronicle.  Here are the March and the April Editions.  A word of note, the April edition starts US-Aircraft.com down the path of PDF for the AMS Chronicle, so if you do not have Adobe, I would suggest that you download it for free.  It is not that bad a program.  I urge a bit of caution.  While PDF files take up less space, they do take a while longer to load.  Please be patient.  Upcoming we will have some fantastic stuff, Some of the gallery submissions are fantastic, and we have some really great amatuer/professional photographers that are going to be providing us with more material, so stayed tuned!!!

2/26/04

Our esteemed webmistress Tanya has been working overtime to keep us in new material.  3 cheers!!!  Huzzah!!!  Today we update the Denver IPMS pages.  The January edition, and the February edition are now available.  Check out the photos in the February edition of the A.M.S. Chronicle.  Congratulations to all who placed in the contest.  If your wondering, yes Justin is my 1:1 scale copy.  If you look closely, you may even see "yers truly" in one photo.  Cheers - Mike

2/24/04

Good Evening....Final awesome additions to the Steve Lawson Gallery Part 3! Pfalz D.III    Siemens Schuckert D.III  Early Production     Siemens Schuckert D.III Late Production   I don't think there is much else I can say.  Steve is a master with the World War One aircraft, and has the expert knowledge to back it up.  I hope that you have enjoyed these.  some not as well known aerial entries into the arena of battle from a time now long ago, and when combat was not at the speed of sound.  Cheers Mike and Tanya

2/23/04

Good Evening....More awesome additions to the Steve Lawson Gallery Part 3!  Tonight after much in the way of showing the German side of the war in the air during the Great War (World War I)  Steve has tackled in great style and finess the Allied Aircraft.  To start tonights' fare, He brings us the famous Sopwith Camel.  the first one a Camel F1 that served as a night fighter, and served a key component of symbology to a very popular comic book hero that started in the 1930s.  Next is a Sopwith Camel F1E that takes attractive livery to new levels.  The next aircraft addressed served as the imputus to the dreaded Fokker DR1.  The Sopwith Triplane was first, and gave the Germans a difficult aircraft to deal with.  The First Sopwith Triplane is one from the RNAS.  The Second is a rare Russian Sopwith Triplane  Read the history of this one it is quite interesting.  Finally, the plane of choice for the French pilot.  The Nieuport.  Steve has done a supurb Nieuport 11c as used by the Italian Regina Aeronautica.  Next is perhaps the most famous of the Nieuport's is Charles Nussenger's Nieuport 17c.  The final and perhaps best of the Nieuports then is represented by this fine buldup of Eduard's Nieuport 24 as used by the 31st Aero Sqd.  I want to thank the Awesome one again for his fantastic work, and for his patience in getting these up, and our Webmistress for doing a fantastic job.  3 cheers for Mr. Lawson!  3 cheers for Tanya

Cheers - Mike

 2/18/04

Good Evening all, Sure it has been a while, but we are back on the update trail.  To start this year of 2004 correctly, we once again bring you some new photos from the "perfessor"  The one we call "awsome"....MAN he HATES when I call him that!!!  Anyways, the Awesome one himself is back with a new gallery, the Steve Lawson Gallery Part 3  You may have noticed on the front index page, we have taken off the immediate link to the Pearl Harbor Gallery.  Not to worry, the photos are still available under the modeller's gallery, so you can still enjoy the fine work by those who want to honor the brave men of that terrible time.  I hope you will find some of the changes you are going to see over the next few weeks and months assist your web cruising within the US-aircraft.com world.  Cheers - Mike and Tanya

12/17/03  The 100th Anniversary of Powered Flight

Hello, and welcome to our very special "100th Anniversary of Flight" edition of the US-Aircraft.com update!  Today we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the very first heavier than air flight.  Orville and Wilbur Wright, in 1903 after painstaking research built an aircraft, and conducted a flight that lasted seconds.  The reverberations of those seconds, however, will last for all time.  Since the 1903 flight, perhaps one of the top three most important events of the 20th Century, we have gone from wing warping to supersonic flight, and beyond.  Today we bring you a little bit of both ends of the spectrum.  Our first walk around today features the Burgess Wright Model B.  This 1911 Burgess Wright Model B Flyer is a full size replica of the first production airplane ever built. To represent the cutting edge of technological aircraft triumph, we feature a full walk around including the engines that thrust the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird into history as the fastest aircraft of all time (that we know of...). Flight has captured mankind's imagination since time immemorial, and we here at US-Aircraft.com are pleased to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of powered flight with all of you.  Cheers - Mike & Tanya.

12/16/03

Good Evening.  Tonight we join in the international Centurion celebration of the Wright Brothers first flight.  On December 17th 1903 two bicycle making brothers launched a heavier than air craft that stayed airborne, and flew from Kittyhawk, North Carolina.  100 years later we have gone from 30 second flights with wing warping technology to Space, and to our Earthen Satellite, the Moon. To launch the Celebration of flight here at US-Aircraft.com, I present to you some of the best photographs from the Airpower West's summer air shows.  Not all the aircraft featured are from Airpower West, but where Airpower West performed, and were present at shows such as Longmont, CO, Jefferson County Airport, CO, and Alamosa Colorado to name a few.  The No. 28 T-28 is a Veteran of the Vietnam War, and some aircraft pictured, need no introduction.  Without further ado, Let us kick off the celebration in freestyle the Century of Flight with the best of the 2003 Air Show Season.

12/7/03

Good Evening.  Tonight, we observe the 62nd anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor.  Remember Pearl Harbor, and all those who died in the struggle to bring the light back to the world in those days.  First, an aircraft type that was present at the attack is examined.  We present for you a walk around of a  Consolidated PBY5A Catalina.  To continue the tradition, US-Aircraft.com's favorite son, Mr. Nathan Milarta has written a review of the pivotal work Fire in the Sky by Eric M. Bergerud.  This is a in depth, and scholarly work which looks at the air war in the South Pacific theater.  Lastly in the research section an article by Michael Gawell entitled Doomed from the Start looks at the errors committed by the Japanese, and makes the case that the Imperial Japanese Military was decidedly wanting in it's ability to conduct a war of aggression.  Have a good evening, enjoy, and as always, Please Remember Pearl Harbor. - Mike and Tanya.

12/2/03

If you need to catch up on your reading, tonight we bring to you a few of past issues of the AMS Chronicle  Nov 2003 Denver Chapter IPMS Newsletter and the Dec 2003 Denver Chapter IPMS Newsletter.

11/28/03

Good Evening, and a belated Happy Thanksgiving to all.  I know it has been a while since a regular update, The pause was needed by the staff here at US-aircraft.com.  A lot has been going on (interesting stuff mind you...) I wanted to start back with something really special, and of interest.  We bring to you vintage photographs of a time when the world was in turmoil, but not in open warfare.  A time called the Cold War.  I am honored to be able to publish here photos directly from Major (ret.) Frank J. Gawell's personal collection from his time serving in the United States Air Force.  These photos cover some of the most tense moments during the Cold War, and beyond.  Most of these are never before published photos of second line, and not so famous aircraft.  First here are photos from the Berlin, Congo & Cuban Missile Crises of 1961.  Also in tonight's update we proudly give to you, The U.S. Air Force, circa 1961. These are everyday photos taken at a time when history was being forged.  Three Cheers to the Green Weasels of the 774th TC, and a huge thank you to both Maj. Gawell, as well as all of you for being so patient. - cheers - Mike and Tanya

11/14/03

I have updated the Links Page taking out some of the dead links and putting in some new and interesting ones that have come to my attention.  I hope you enjoy some of our new ones, but don't forget to always come home to US-aircraft.com.  Cheers - Mike.

11/12/03

Hello all, sorry for the absence.  Soccer, and other things such as coaching have intruded upon the updates of the website.  We have some things lines up, and they will be up shortly.  To start a new round of updates, first I would like to introduce the new topic of the month, World War One Aviation.  The birthplace of all modern combat aviation started in these years, and it is to these years 1914-1918 we now turn for discussion.  Cheers - Mike

9/19/03

IPMS September 2003 newsletter

7/23/03

Tonight, just a small update, but a LOT of good information, The August edition of the A.M.S. Chronicle  is here for your reading pleasure. This is the offical news letter of the Denver/ Wolf Chapter of the IPMS - Cheers - Mike

7/21/03

Good evening.  Tonight we wrap up our week (plus or minus) of foreign and adversarial aircraft.  We have updated, and made a complete walk-around with over 20 photos for the Tupolev TU-2.  While it is doubtful, from talking to the owners, that it shall ever fly again, it is a fairly complete aircraft, and definitely a treasure to behold.  This TU-2 was pulled from a cave in China.  Continuing with a VVS Theme in the Modeler's Gallery, Michael Gawell brings us three of his builds.  First up, is the Classic Airframes Mig 3 (this is the early version of the Mig 3) in 1/48 scale.  Next Michael brings us what he considers to be one of his best builds ever, definitely one of his favorites; the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 scale Ilyushin IL-2 Sturmovik (single seat variant).  Lastly he shows that the Hobbycraft Polikarpov I-16 Type 24 Rata in 1/48 scale does indeed build into a nice little kit.  This threesome was 3/5 of the starting lineup for VVS in the Great Patriotic War. - Mike and Tanya.  PS  Once again we must say Thank you to our ebullient web mistress for getting all this together.  THANK Q!!!!!

7/20/03 The Russians Are Coming!!!

Good evening.  We certainly could say the Russians are coming, and have arrived.  Our week of foreign and adversarial aircraft updates continues tonight with a super-update of five walk-arounds.  First off, the scourge of Mig-Alley, the Mig15Bis  although some of these are of the UTI variant, the essentials of an agile fighter craft are there, including the cockpit shots.  Next up, the Follow-up to the Mig-15, the Mig-17.  This beautifully restored aircraft is regularly seen flying the skies of Colorado.  The Next to trouble Airmen of the American and Allied Air Forces to any great extent was the Mig- 21  (Gimme a break, I have not found a Mig-19 as of yet)  The Russian airmen also had some favorite training aircraft, and since the fall of the Iron Curtain, many have been available to the west for fun and purchase.  The standard Jet trainer for the Warsaw Pact Countries, the L-39 is seen here, as well as a Yak-52 which strangely shows off the well known markings of LA-5 ace Captain Georgi D. Kostylev of the 3rd Guards Aviation Regiment, VVS.  If this was snapped in back and white, you could almost swear it was a photo from the great patriotic war!!  Dasvidanya!! - Mikhail

7/16/03

Foreign aircraft week continues here at US-Aircraft.com.  Like most military history enthusiasts and  modelers, my interests extend beyond just the United States Military forces to understanding the totality of military history.  It encompasses naval, armor, and airpower from across the globe.  To this end, we have established the Foreign Aircraft Gallery, and hopefully in the future will add both armor and naval model galleries.  In the Foreign Aircraft Gallery tonight, we welcome Michael Gawell's Hasagawa 1/48 scale Macchi C. 202.  In addition, we have made a table for each of the major combatant air forces from the 20th century for easier web crawling.  Finally tonight, in celebration of this expansion of the US-Aircraft.com world view, we are also adding an aircraft walkaround of a fully restored Fieseler Fi-156 Storch.  I hope you will enjoy it.  Stay tuned the BEST is yet to come!!! - cheers  - Mike and Tanya

7/15/03

Good evening.  Tonight we start to get back on track.  We bring you some more of Earl Hosmer's work on the A-4 Sky Hawk, and have reconstructed the page into a more useable format.  We also added some additional photos for the A-4 F, A-4L, and A-4P Sky Hawks.  Also since we modelers are a strange breed, not wanting to stay with any particular nation (and the fact I have a few goodies I REALLY want to show off in the near future) US-Aircraft is introducing the Foreign Aircraft Model Gallery.  Oh sure we gave "Awesome National Champion" Steve Lawson (he hates when I call him that!) his own gallery, but now we can all get in the act.  The first entry is a Hawker Hunter by Earl Hosmer.  Thanks for being patient with us over the last 2 months while we caught our breath.  There are TONS more exciting things to come soon, and I have a LOT of walkarounds on the way soon courtesy of the Hill AFB Museum, and my camera.  -  Cheers - Mike

7/9/03

Good Evening all.  We start this month with a regular feature, the July 2003 IPMS newsletter  Also to follow on we move back into the library, and yet another book to review, and I reccommend it to all.  This one is War in the Air book reviewed  by Mike Gawell.  I just received back from the developer the shots from the Longmont CO  EAA Fly in, so look for those shots soon.  Also, a number of walk arounds will be posted soon. - JUST IN:  I just received this note: US-Aircraft's Very own AWESOME Steven Lawson has placed 1st  at the Oklahoma City 2004 IPMS Nationls. The piece that won was in the aircraft diorama class titled 'The Order of the Wooden Cross'  the crash of Alb. D.V 2042/17 17
July 1918.   Congratulations Steve.  Well Done!  To see some of his work, and why we call him AWESOME, check out the Modelers Gallery.

6/10/03

First of all, let me offer apologies here from US-Aircraft.com for the hiatus and not updating the site for about 2 months.  We were unfortunantly just genuinely overwhelmed with life issues beyond the aviation world, and the demands that life forces upon each and everyone of us at one time or another.  Plainly put, there was just no time left for the web site.  To get us started back on the road to regular updates, we shall catch up on our reading, and tonight we submit to you the last 2 issues of the Rob Wolf IPMS Chapter Newsletter better known as the A.M.S. chronicle.

This for those who are following their programs would be the May Edition, and the now June Edition.  I hope you enjoy the articles herein, and I promise that we will have some great stuff in the future.  I happened to be able to drop into a place called Gray Bull, Wyoming last week while on official travel status in my job.  If you are not familiar with the name, I am sure you will find the photos interesting as This is the home to the Firebombers, and I was able to get some great photos of the PB4Y-2, the old Minnesota Planes of Fame A-26, a C-189, and a PBY Catalina that is being restored.  They happened to have at least 40-50 other very large warbirds in the "back 40" awaiting restoration or to use for parts.  Also a big THANK YOU for our very overworked webmistress Tanya for here doing this update for us all.  Cheers - Mike

4/18/03

Good Evening.  Today marks the 2nd Anniversary of US-Aircraft.com's Launch onto the web.  I want to thank each and every one of you that visits, and for those who have found this to be a good home away from home, doubly so.  Tonight we thought the best way to celebrate would be to give some interesting photos that will be of great use to those who build models, and of good interest to those who love aviation.  These are some great detail shots of a P-51 Mustang in New Mexico.  I hope this will help all of you with that new 1/24 Mustang kit!  Cheers - Mike

4/8/03

Good evening once again.  More Family Photos for your enjoyment tonight.  First we bring you some photos from Mike Gawell who managed to witness a Multiple Launch Rocket System Test Shoot down at White Sands, NM, last August.  These weapons have played a key role in the Gulf War II.  They are extremely powerful artillery systems.  Next up we bring you this month's installment of the AMS Chronicle, AKA the April 2003 Denver IPMS Newsletter.  There is a good article on the Skyhawk in there.  Lastly we hear once again from Michael Gawell who managed to get extremely up close and personal with a P-38H Lightning Walkaround  How he managed to get in the cockpit is a wonder...EVERY modeler's dream.  Way to go !!! - Cheers - Mike

4/7/03

Good Evening (or morning depending where you are)  Today we take a stroll back to the Family Photos Section.  Major Lynnette Gawell has provided us with some more interesting  Photos of United States Airpower mostly out of Kadena AFB as they refueled from her squadron's aircraft.  I hope you enjoyed our April Fools day funny.  No we are not going to the "dark side" of Luftwaffe Aircraft. - cheers - Mike

Today, well actually over the 8th and 9th, we have put up some additional updates.  First, we have found a walk around of a Canadian FA-18 Hornet .  This was shot at the Tiger Meet that was in Colorado about a year and a half ago.  This is one really colourful bird, and if not in decals, it SHOULD be.  What a great job the Canadians did!  We also have put up a couple shots in the Modeler's Gallery of the Tamiya P-47 by Dan Salamone.  Talking to Dan, he says it's a great kit.  Also another great build with a few photos; a F4U-1D by Clinton B. Bauer flying off the U.S.S. Intrepid.  I am going to have to work harder at the craft to get up to the standards all of you have set.  Great work gentlemen! - Cheers - Mike

Well, here we are again, Are you SURE the wives, daughters, and such are locked away?  Tonight we finish our tribute to the U.S. Navy.  First another of the Walk Arounds from the Late, Great Jay Mack, one of Denver IPMS's finest.  45 shots of two of the still airborne F6F-5 Hellcats.  To finish out the World War II strike capable aircraft in the walk around section, Mike Gawell submits for your viewing pleasure a complete walk around with cockpit and turret shots of a TBM-3E Avenger.  OK, I know there are a few fans of the Big Tailed Beast out there...If you have shots of a Helldiver, we could use them!  We here at US-Aircraft.com, as you know cover more than World War II aircraft however.  We also like the ships.  Here is Mike Gawell's triple play from the Baltimore Inner Harbor, the USS Constellation, USS Torsk, and the Lightship Chesapeake.  (Say who's that good looking guy with the really big Cannon?)  OK, so it's a cheese shot...  If you have any walkarounds, of ships, Tanks, aircraft, regardless of country, send them on in, and we will find room for them Cheers, and Tally Ho!- Mike

Wow!  Our Web Mistress has been busy!  So have you guys!  The additions to the modeler's gallery are the proof.  I will have to get moving to keep up!  This evening, Ryan Boerema brings us a few more of his great photostop works.  First a Bell P-39 Airacobra is in dire trouble over Bouganville in the Solomons.  Next Ryan has a Hawk 75 or also known as a Curtiss P-36A that has lost it's bid to outfight a Grumman F4F Wildcat over North Africa.  A Republic P-47 has found it's way into trouble, and it's pilot may soon be a guest of the Luftstalag.  The price of breaking the wrong way.  George Preddy shows how to do it right in his P-51 Mustang "Cripes a Mighty".  The final vignette is a superb action stop of 2 Curtiss P-40s over North Africa taking on a Macchi MC 202 in a head on pass.  Thanks for taking a look, and thanks to Ryan for all his fantastic work.  Cheers - Mike.

1/09/03

Good Evening everyone.  We thought we would start tonight with a real feelgood shot/hooroah type thing we call Fly By USA submitted by USAF Maj. Lynette Gawell, yes a relation (sister).  This is a flight of T-38s over Randolph AFB in TX.  Next Ryan Boerema has another great photoshop vignette for us featuring a F4U-1D in the Navy/Marine Gallery called Off LeShima.  Our final submission for the night is a rare Boeing P-26 Peashooter in Phillipean markings by Tony Feredo in the Army/Air Force Gallery.  After viewing the work by these guys, and just finishing a Dewoitine D520 last night, I am MOTIVATED!!!!  Might just have to pull that Hobbycraft P-26 out myself.  I added a new section of links to the Links Links and more Links area.  These are all for those of you who enjoy flying your computer when not researching history or building models or visiting US-aircraft.com ;)  Most importantly I would like to welcome The Scenery Hall of Fame to the links area.  They have some interesting downloads for CFS-2, namely Carriers like the Lexington, Essex, etc.

I want to thank our hard workin' Web Mistress Lady T for all the work she has done getting this stuff up.  she is pretty busy, yet still found time to make it all look much better than I did in the system.   Cheers  -  Mike

Good Evening.  Tonight we experience a rare treat.  This is a Scratch Built model of the USS Texas as done by Derek Brown of the Rob Wolf Chapter, IPMS.  The photos and model are by Derek Brown in the Ships section of the modelers gallery. The photos as great as they are, just do not do the justice to this model.  It is first rate work, and an inspiration to me personally as to what is possible.  The detail is just incredible.  I believe that you can see more of this work, and how he did it in Fine Scale Modeler Magazine.  Thanks Derek!  Cheers - Mike and Tanya

First of all Tanya and I would like to wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year from US-Aircraft.com.  To Start this new year out correctly, we would like to offer you a glimpse of the San Diego Area.  Professional photographer Richard Leek was there recently, and graciously took some photos for the web site.  We present to you The Richard Leek Collection.  These are in the Family Photos Section.  Also we catch up with the news and the goings on of the Denver based Rob Wolf Chapter of the IPMS via the news letter.  First is the December 2002 news letter, and also this month's news in the January 2003 edition of the AMS Chronicle.

12/07/02

Good Evening.  Today we solemnly remember Pearl Harbor on the 61st anniversary of the Attack.  In observation of Pearl Harbor Day and to honor the valiant men who fought there, we bring to you additions for the Pearl Harbor Gallery.  First Nathan Milarta, and Bill Dedig have completed the Curtiss P-40B/C for the gallery entitled Heroes.  This is a great way to side by side compare both the Revell-Monogram, and Hobby Craft kits, as well as comparing history vs. Hollywood.  Nathan has been incredibly busy and also built the R-M Vought OS2U Kingfisher in 1/48 scale.  Just to complete the victory pass, Nathan has built an outstanding Hobby Craft Curtiss P-36A in the livery of the aircraft flown by Lt. Rasmussen on December 7th.  If you find his work inspirational, and would like to do your own P-40, may I humbly submit to you a walk around of a REAL P-40!  This is the Santa Teresa, New Mexico War Eagles Museum Curtiss P-40E.  I was fortunant to be allowed to get very up close and personal with the aircraft, but sorry no keys to the cockpit, and a somewhat lousy camera, but most shots are worth it!!  If you are building the AM Tech P-40E, you will want to see these shots.  We did the best we could shooting through the perspex canopy.  We also have a new discussion group topic of the month; Pearl Harbor to Midway, the first 6 months.  Let's have some fun, and discuss not only the well known, but the not so well known aspects of the darker days of WWII.  I want to also thank Lady T our web master who, though very ill, insisted we keep our observation today, albeit later in the day.  I hope you enjoy tonight's offerings.  Remember Pearl Harbor!! - Mike

11/22/02

Hello again, another Triple Header!  Tonight we bring you the latest from Everett McEwan of the Denver rob wolf IPMS Tonight he displays for us his Bombcat F-14 and Kit Review.  You can read the Kit review, or go directly to the Modeler's Gallery to see the photos.  If you want my $.02, read the review, trust me it's worth it!  Everett gave a class on how to make a canopy crystal clear with this baby to the rest of us last month, and provides links to the product web site.  I hope you enjoy his art as much as I do.  Cheers - Mike.

PS  Thanks go to Tanya for the 3 nights in a row posting stuff for us!!!

11/21/02

Hello once again!  We are working our way down throught eh submissions.  Tonight we have another photoshop submission, a P-40 by Ryan Boerema Entitled Libya.  In this one the Allies once again are victorious over the "eye ties" in the form of a P-40B/C over a Fiat G50.  Great Work Ryan!  Also we are honored to present for your veiwing inspiration one of the best model builders in the US.  Earl Hosmer of the Denver Rob Wolf Chapter gives us the 90% complete result of his A-4 Douglas A-4 Skyhawk project.  Included are images of an A4A, A4L, and A4M.  You can see the final project at the 2003 NATS.  Trust me his, work is beyond compare.  I DREAM of being that good.  Enjoy!  Mike and Tanya

11/20/02

Good November to all of you.  Seems the year is speeding by now.  This evening's first entry is a very clever use of Photoshop by Ryan Boerema: Brewster F2A Buffalo in a piece entitled Finn Win as a Finnish F2A of LeLv 24 defeats a Russian Yak 9 in the Navy/Marine Aircraft Gallery.  Next we would like to bring a spotlight on a young, and upcoming modeller Mr. Nathan Milarta.  Nathan has been very active on the dicussion boards, and now shows us his prowess with the plastic arts.  He begins by bringing the Army and Airforce Aircraft Gallery into the jet age with his F-5A Freedom Fighter in 48th scale.  Next is a Korean War vintage fighter bomber, the F-84E Thunderjet.  Also just to show Air Superiority in a colourful rendition of a F-89C Scorpion  I ALMOST had a chance a few days ago to do a walk around of a F-89.  I will get one soon - Promise.  To finish off the jet age entries, Nathan has completed a well executed F-94 Starfire.  I need to have him explain natural metal finishes to me!!  To show you exactly what I mean, he also shows his abilities to do NMF aircraft in the early WWII era with a Seversky P-35, and Phil Rasmussen's Pearl Harbor Curtis P-36A.  If all these fantastic submissions are NOT enough, we have finally, the November 2002 IPMS Newsletter from the Denver-Rob Wolf Chapter.  Have a GREAT Thanksgiving if you happen to celebrate it (as here in the USA), and we will talk soon with more - Mike and Tanya

10/23/02

As promised, some of the backlog of submissions is being cleared.  Tonight, in our Modeler's Gallery we bring you a montage of Galleria by Amos Terrill.  First on the block, in the US Navy and Marine Aircraft Modeler's Gallery, He brings us a well executed Grumman F4F Wildcat as flown by Ens. Stephen Groves.  Next Amos opens a few new catagories in our Gallery for Army/Airforce Aircraft.  The Galleries for the  P-51 Mustang  is started with 4 wild ponies as flown by Maj. Duane Beeson, Capt. John Godfrey (King of Strafers and Author of Tumult in the Clouds), Maj. Leonard "Kit" Carson, and Col. John C. Meyer.  P-47's?  You want Jugs?  Check out Amos's P-47 "Smokepole" as flown by Lt. Hal Dunning.  Lets finish up with a well executed P-38J by Amos done in the colors of Maj. Thomas McGuire.  Well done Amos, and thanks for the submissions.

Cheers

Mike and Tanya

10/22/02

Well we are a bit tardy, but here is the "monthly update".  Time has not been kind to us, so we have lots from many, and we ARE getting to it.  Coming soon are additions to the galleries, and walkarounds, but I am going to have our esteemed webmistress do the submissions before we get to my stuff.  Today we have a good selection of photographs from our resident expert "Awesome" Steve Lawson.  (The Dr. is in!)  Steve has been gracious enough to loan US-aircraft.com photographs from his travels, and times with the Lafayette Foundation, a WWI aircraft group here in Colorado with flying replica WWI fighter craft.  Not enough for a walkaround, but good photos none the less.  We present the Lawson Collection.  They will be located with the Walkarounds.  Also we have posted a walkaround of a 7/8 flying replica S.E.5a 10 photos.  (Say "Awsome", who's that guy by the cockpit??!)

Also we have posted for your reading enjoyment the last few issues of the Denver Rob Wolf IPMS chapter newsletter.  These are the August, September, and October editions of the A.M.S. Chronicle.  I hope that will keep everyone busy here for at least a few minutes of their web surfing time.  Thanks again to Tanya for all her hard work on the site.  She also corrected the counter to reflect reality, and we ARE going to move to a more accurate counter soon.  Might just have to have a contest for the 100,000th person!

Cheers

Mike and Tanya

9/26/02

Good day. Today we bring you finally a walk around we wanted to get up almost from the beginning. Due to some SNAFUs with with software systems of emails, and such we had the walk arounds, but could not access them for whatever reason. Tom Matlosz brings us a very good walkaround of a SBD-3 Dauntless from the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola Florida. If you ever wanted to get close to the aircraft that turned the Pacific war in a single day at Midway, here is your chance. SBD-3.htm  There is more to come, so keep checking back! Cheers - Mike and Tanya

9/18/02

Today's installment of the show that never ends is part of the effort to clear the back log of submissions sent to US-Aircraft.com.  There is more, so if yours is not there yet, relax, we are coming to it soon.  First off we bring you in the Rob Wolfe IPMS chapter section, we bing you 3 new kit reviews by Dale Summers.  They are the Dassault Falcon 50 in 1/48 scale kitbashed from various kits, the Trumpeter Badger TU-16, and the Eduard Bf108 Taifun.  Sorry no photos.  On the lighter side, we add to the section that used to be called Stupid Pilot Tricks in the Family Photos Section, and we shall now call Military Intellegence.  There are captions, that if you can give us a better one, we will use them instead.  This is generally designed to be the lighter side of Military/airshow, etc. life through photos.  Occasionally we put something in there like the Stupid Taliban Tricks that fits no place else.  But hey let's face it...the US has air Superiority, and they wanted to move in day light????  Death is not funny, but as part of the war against terrorism, this has a satisfying feel to it.  (YES I KNOW it's not a BMP!!!)  Enjoy! - Mike

9/17/02

This change is the first of a few major ideas that will alter in some way the direction that US-aircraft.com is headed.  No, nothing major.  Call it US-aircraft.com and then some.  Actually we are now going to call the web page the Combined Arms History and Modeling Page.  Nothing more than widening our fields of interest to allow for a better world view of US military history and model making.  We kick off our change with a new catagory to our modeler's gallery.  Armor.  I would like to welcome Matt Malorgorski and his 1/87th scale Roco kit version of the United States Lance Missile and M667 Launcher.  Matt chose to portray the system as used by the Isreali Defense Forces.   I am personally partial to this weapon system, since it is the system I commanded during my time in the United States Army.  Matt did an fantastic job with the kit, and brought back a few good memories for myself personly.  If your interested, there is a photo of a Lance shoot in the Family Photos section.  I have also initiated a new discussion topic on our rotating board, US Civillian Aircraft, and made surfability back and forth with our sister site j-aircraft.com easier from the boards as requested.  The previous rotating subjects of the War over Afganistan, and the MTO are still there, you just have to use the search and preference functions to go back to them.  feel free to always comment or ask questions on those topics.  Finally, I would like to congratulate the AWSOME Steve Lawson who took best of show, along with more than a couple first places at the Grand Junction Modeler's show for his work.  Check it out in his very own Model Galleries.  As we head into prime model making and research season, enjoy the waning summer, (or winter if your down under).  Cheers - Mike

OK so as you all probably know each major air show usually has a sponsor or two to defray the cost of bringing in all the aircraft.  Air Show Colorado 2002 is no different.  Tonight we have a sponsor that actually is IN the show.  The first demonstration of sheer prowess with the avionic forces of nature though was a Steen Skybolt.  I used to find these acts rather boring personally, but in the last few years have garnered a deep appreciation for the skill, and strength of these what I call Obligatory Stunt Pilot shows of daring do.  Now the sponsor.  After the Skybolt had landed, and before the collective audience could catch their collective breath, or get through the refreshment line, here came the Pepsi Chipmink flight demonstration.  This guy was GOOD, and in my humble opinion, a bit reckless.  When it is THAT hot out, you need to correct your altitude.  This act came within 10-30 feet a few times of giving everyone a few more memories of the airshow than anyone would have wanted.  While I have an appreciation of their craft, and skill, I have no desire to watch another hot dog pilot auger in.  The Pepsi Chipmunk Aerobatic act though definitively showed us the spheres of iron that the pilot had been born with.  Well I missed the Lischer Aerobatic act, but from the line I was in to buy my obligatory Alph Strike T-shirt, and toys, the act looked interesting.  Then as I made my way back to the rest of where Air Power West had gathered, we were to behold the true profficency of flight, and formation that is the United States Navy Blue Angels.  Their World famous act was something to behold, and I beleive that our headlining photo-journal piece of about 50 some images captured the essense of these professionals.  I salute them, and their ground team.  These Guys were GREAT!!!  Please enjoy all the links, soon I will pass on to you some of the good natured shots of how to enjoy an airshow just like a member of Air Power West hehehe.  For now please enjoy the performance.  Cheers - Mike

7/31/02

We present to you Part 2 of the Colorado Airshow 2002. Today we offer the F-16, the Mig-17 from Air Power West, and FA-18 flybys and demostration teams.

7/30/02

Today we bring to you the first installment of Air Show Colorado 2002.  The lines to get in were 20 miles long, and took approximately 4 hours.  I believe there were 70,000 spectators a day!!!  Anyways here is the first act in the air on Saturday July 27, 2002, none other than Air Power West!  We were honored to open the show, and so the first portion is dedicated to Air Power West and their aircraft in flight and on display.  Part 2 will debut tomorrow.

Cheers - Mike

7/17/02

Tonight we bring you just a single update  This is a review of the book No EasyDays by yers truly.  Stay tuned as the surprises continue.  Cheers - Mike

7/16/02

Good Evening, once again we have more in store for your viewing pleasure, and perhaps inspiration.  We will start out tonight by presenting for your veiwing pleasure the saviours of summer, the guys and girls who fly daily over the canyons, and mountains of our western states to attempt to save lives and property when disaster stikes.  I am of course Talking about the Firebombers.  As you know we have had very dangerous conditions this summer.  Here are the aircraft that are on the front line once again 60 years after the fact.  I present for you; Firebirds - The Angels in Red.  So have you picked up your copy of Osprey Publication's AVG Colours and markings?  What are you waitng for a review?  I reveiw the book tonight.  American Volunteer Group Colours and Markings by Terrill Clements.  Also the latestest edition of the AMS Chronicle is up and ready for your perusal.  There are some good articles from the Rob Wolf IPMS Chapter, and there have been changes in the leadership.  I am no longer VP, but just "another peon"  2 terms is enough.  The Skyhawk article, and TA-154 article are worth it alone though for the reading.  Last and certainly not least we thught we would get off our dead butts and up date the Local_events Section  There are a few good airshows and such going on around here, thoughtt you may want to know.  Have a great one! Cheers Mike

7/15/02

Tonight is a first.  It is not only the first software review I have done, but it is also the first time I had a copy donated to me by the responsible party.  Pacific Wreck Database is the brain child of Justin Taylor.  He has as much a passion for preserving the wrecks as most of us do about modeling.  The melding of software, and history is a natural, and Justin does it exactly right.  This is a product I highly endorse.  We will be soon posting more on the site, but the summer has found us incredibly busier than we planned.  Yesterday was an airshow for the USAF folks at Buckley AFB,and I was allowed to ride back seat in a T-6 fourship.  Number 2 position.  (forgot the camera though!!)  Who woulda thought a T-6 would look SOOO big!!!  I did get a few good shots later of the 140 TFW F-16s in flight, as well as a L-39, and P-80/T-33 that is been beautifully restored.  The fires here in colorado are contained, and I have fire bomber photos soon to come.  I just need to finalize the order.  stay tuned there is a lot happening, and a few surprises in store. -

Cheers - - Mike

PS for those following...no the kit from hell is NOT finished yet!

6/10/02

Today's update is only a singular item, but of interesting historical value and perspective.  I have to caution everyone that the language is not written in todays "politically correct" speech, and there are some images that perhaps younger historians  may need to have previewed by their parents first, but this IS how it was reported back on March 30, 1942.  This article is by George Roger and although he got the photo credits, I believe they were actually shot by Clare Booth Luce.  The LIFE Magazine article gives a good glimpse into the Flying Tigers in_Burma .  This article is located in the Research Section.

6/4/02

Good Evening everyone.  I hope you remember that today is/was the 60th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway, and the decisive day of the battle at that.  In 1942, Luck, skill, and fate turned the Pacific War against the Imperial Japanese Navy, and initiative was thrown to the United States on an almost permanent basis.  This battle has been called one of the the singular most important battles ever on the high seas.  To honor the sacrifice of the heroes on both sides, and their courage, I have submitted to your review the Life Magazine article of August  31, 1942 which features the first interview by Ens. George Gay.  I think you will find it poingant to learn a bit more about the men of this brave and heroic squadron.  Written by Sidney L. James, it is entitled Torpedo Squadron 8.  This is located in the Battles Directory.

Secondly, if you want to know more what it was like to serve aboard the IJN carrier Akagi during the battle, perhaps you would like to read a review of the book Midway:  The Battle That Doomed Japan by Commanders Mitsuo Fuchida and Masatake Okumiya who were present those bitter days.  The review is in the Library.  If you would like to see some of the aircraft present that day for each side, the Modeler's Navy and Marine Air Gallery is your stop for US aircraft.  The Pearl Harbor Movie "Villans" Gallery has Models and photos of Japanese aircraft from Kido Butai.  I hope you enjoy our very humble tribute to these brave aircrews, sailors and soldiers that fought on those epic days in June of 1942. Respectfully submitted - Mike.

3/11/02
First and Foremost Happy 12th Birthday to Justin, my 1:1 scale replica!  Secondly as voted on by the boards, we have taken Enduring freedom, and since the Classic Airframes SM-79 is about to be released, we thought it was a good time to discuss the North African and Mediterranean Theater of Operations.  This board is for any countiries ships, armour, or aircraft that participated in these battles.  Thats right, ANY Nations actions.  I really want to have a good discussion, and besides, I am REALLY itchin' to get my grubby little hands on the SM-79, and start building it!
So in essence, any action regarding Italy, Syria, Iraq, Tunisia, Torch, El Alamain, Kyber Pass, etc. is open for discussion.  You want to talk about Gloster Gladiators, or Bf-109s?  Here is your forum.  The desert Fox, and Monty?  Here ya go!!!  Lets have at it, and have a great discussion.  Cheers!  Mike
2/24/02
No your eyes do not deceive you, two updates in one day.  (Wonders shall not cease!)  We thought we would bring to you some reviews for your consideration.  The first is of the P-39 Airacobra in detail and scale by Burt Kinzy, and the other is Scale Aircraft Modeller's Combat Colours 4 Pearl Harbor and Beyond.  Mike Gawell has written both reviews for us.  Thank you Lady T for these updates.  Take the rest of the day off!
2/24/02
Ok, so here we were going to make it 4 nights in a row, see, and then OUT OF THE BLUE....not buying it are you?  Actually we have been building the second wing of the Awsome Steve Lawson Gallery.  As you recall (for all you IPMSers) that Mr. Lawson wrote a letter that spawned a YEAR'S worth of mail in the National IPMS magazine.   Anyways, Steve has brought us somewhere around 100 images of his experience, magic, and craft.  Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you; The Awesome Steve Lawson Gallery Part Deux.
2/19/02
WOW  Three nights in a row.  Lady T our esteemed webmaster deserves a medal for compassionate duty above and beyond!!!  Tonight we bring only one thing ("only one!" Lady T is heard muttering in the background...)  Tonight despite computer glitches not seen since the last time we installed a new computer, we bring to you Building a better? Hawk Part 2 - the P-40 Warhawk.  This is another in a series of not so regular reviews from "yers truely".  A average review for the average modeler.  It is a OOB review of the Hobbycraft P-40B/C kit in all it's not so glorious detail.  Enjoy, and see ya soon!  Mike.
P.S.  Hey, anyone for a contest to hit 20 thousand visitors?  Let us know on the US General Discussion Board.
2/18/02
Tonight not alot, but some great stuff all the same.  First we bring to you another Amos Terrill creation.  This time he has a go at the Hasagawa SBD-3 Kit and 5 images backdated to an SBD-2 Dauntless modeling Maj. Lofton Henderson's aircraft at the time of the Midway Attack.  Next US-aircraft is happy to welcome Randy Lutz to the family, and list of contributors.  Randy weighs in with 2 reviews.  The first is a kit review of the Occidental T-6 Texan.  The second review is of the Eduard Bell X-1.  Thanks Randy.  Part 2 of last night's Warhak kit reviews is almost done, but the monitor on the "old computer" failed, and the new one will not accept our Office 2000 pro CDs to upgrade the software.  After much cursing yet to ensue, we will find a solution to this problem.  Stay tuned for Part 2 (P-40), and maybe even a review of a game or two for the PC. (hint - If you haven't bought IL-2 Sturmovick yet, GET IT!!!!).  For now Cheers!!  Mike - Out!
2/17/02
Tonight we bring you some "catch up" from the past couple months.  First, in the Walkaround area we bring you  photos of a Sikosky MH60L Black Hawk couresty of Everett McEwan.  Get those conversion sets out!  Speaking of Everett, he has been rather busy for us.  He also gives us a great demonstration of his superior model building in the form of a McDonnell Douglas A-4F Skyhawk in the Modeler's Gallery.  Claus Krueger of Germany has weighed in with 2 kits.  First is a superior rendition of a rather inferior kit.  The Frog Martin Maryland.  Also is a B-17B.  Very well done, and to think both are in 1/72nd scale!  Finally, yer humble ownership brings together part one of the hobbycraft hawks ala Pearl Harbor.  This is a kit review of the P-36 Hawk from Hobbycraft in 1/48.  Also, Denver IPMS December meeting photos are up.  Here is some of the upcoming NATS competition people.  US-aircraft.com and Air Power West were quite busy this last week.  Tanya and I will be taking over the Company Store this summer, and over the weekend we, and APW hosted 16 Boy Scouts in a tour of Centennial Airport, Englewood, Colorado, and the kids got to see up close and personal a Hawker Sea Fury, and N/A T-6G, as well as learn first hand how airshow routines are worked up, and also how to build a better model.  Photos will follow!  Until tomorrow,  Au revoir, mon amie!
1/27/02
Good evening, and welcome back.  Well we have certainly had a livlier week here.  On the Army Airforce Discussion Board there has been and still is a very good discussion of the colors the AVG used to paint their P-40B/C.  In order to really capture this data, with the permission of many kind people, we are starting a page in the Research Section to compile the data gathered.  So far it is consisting of photos of some of the members of the AVG, notably Eric shilling in front of a P-40.  I want to thank all, including Terrill Clements, Author of AVG Markings and Colors for stopping by to weigh in with an expert opinion.  I also want to thank Pete Chalmers, and John Alcosta for providing photos.  I will post them tomorrow night.  I need to add some comments to make it more than just a photo gallery.  Speaking of the AVG, Amos Terrill has provided some Terriffic examples of AVG P-40 aircraft for the Modeler's Gallery.  I PROMISE to clean up the data later.  Time crunch tonight!!

Last but not least, some photographs I shot from last september of a LTV A-7 Corasair II are featured tonight in the walk around section.  we are working our way through the myriad of data, and photos, so if you have submitted something, be patient, it WILL be posted.  More this week to come.  Cheers - Mike

Happy new Year to all!  Sorry it has been so long, but the past 2 months have kept Tanya and I very very busy at home and work.  Tanya is now a partner with her firm...drop her a congratulatory line, and I was finding a home for everyone's tax returns...don't all thank me at once!  Today just a quick update.  I have added a few links to our links page.  They are the Lafayette Foundation, a Colorado Based WWI Flying group with flying replicas.  Great movies!, The Colorado Crew, a ship modelling group in Denver that has ships from 6 inches to 16 feet in length.  These are working models of warships and such.  Great club.  They also do resin casting.  Also please welcome Michigan Discount Models and Accessories to the fold.  Great Service, and a few rare volumes.  Check them out.  We have some very interesting things going on at US-aircraft.com.  Help us in the effort to determine the true AVG P-40 Colors on the Army Airforce discussion board.  Your opinion counts as much as the next person's.  We have lots to post in the gallery soon, and other interesting walkarounds and articles upcoming.  Stay tuned - Mike

"We interrupt this program to bring you a special news bulletin..."  So began a long day's journey into war.  60 years ago today at 7:55am local time, The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.  In special honor of those who died, and those who were there, we bring you a special tribute, and update.  First off, today we launch our first ship walkaroundThe USCGC Taney.  The USCGC Taney is the last surviving ship from the attack.  Also for your journey back through time you can now read courtesy of Steve Farrington of Colorado, the first published reports from LIFE magazine Dated December 14, 1941, and December 29, 1941.  These are the ACTUAL pages, not reproductions that I scanned.  A big thanks to LIFE also.  Please visit the entire Battles Directory dedicated to Pearl Harbor.  If that is not enough, please read the book reviews dedicated to Pearl Harbor in the Library.  We have posted 2 new reviews.  The first covers various 60th Anniversary Edition Articles, the second covers Carl Smith's book Pearl Harbor 1941 from Osprey publishing.  Finally we have posted 4 photos from Amos Terrell in the Pearl Harbor Gallery of his Accurate Miniatures B-25B and offer it in comparison to the movie version you saw this summer.  Now for some good places to Remember Pearl Harbor and those who are true heroes.  Join us for a discussion today in the General discussion arena.  Since many are drawing comparisons with September 11, Go to our Enduring Freedom discussion Board.  We are having some very deep discussions on human rights.  Much like they did when the Japanese Americans were interned.  If you want to see things through the eyes of the Japanese, please visit our sister site. J-Aircraft.com.  If you would like to visit Pearl Harbor web sites, click here.  I highly recommend Pearl Harbor Attacked.  and Battleship Row.  Just come back to visit.  Or go to our links section.  We have archieved information for the modeler.  Just click here. Want to know what the US Aircraft looked like?  Click here for the research section.  All the US-Sections are also available from the main page/homepage.  If you would like to view Pearl Harbor today, click here.  They are running survivor accounts on audio as you watch.  Last and CERTAINLY not least, I want to thank Tanya, our webmaster who spent more than a few nights past 1am, and STILL went to work the next day...Tanya is the one resposible for getting all this together and up on the web in a short period.  Please let her know if you enjoyed this special update.  Email her at ladyt@us-aircraft.com .  All I did was collect the information, and give it context.  If you have questions or comments, go to the discussion boards, or email me at mgawell@us-aircraft.com .  To the survivors, their families, and friends of the Pearl Harbor combatants, American, and Japanese.  I sincerely wish to honor you, and the lessons we learned in those terrible years.  Never forget.

As promised, tonight we bring to you the updated and complete walkaround of a Vickers built Supermarine Spitfire MkIX two seat night fighting version.  (53 images)  This is a rare bird indeed.  I believe it was related to me that there are only 2 of these left in the world.  This one is owned by Bill Greenwood, and is part of the Airpower West Squadron.  If you want to see a "home movie of this beauty flying by, go to the home movies section.  Here there are movies of it escorting a B-17G.  Hope you enjoy the entire experience of getting up close and personal with this aircraft.  The next update will be effective December 7, 2001.  We are going to bring to you a special 60th Anniversary edition that day.  It will include special coverage of the actual day of infamy, and other very interesting work.  Speaking of Pearl Harbor, we are now linked to Pearl Harbor Attacked, and Battleship Row.  They are a combined page, and the largest WWII website on the World Wide Web.  A very special thanks to David Aiken for assisting us in that.
Cheers!

First and foremost I want to send a HUGE thank you to Loic of Great Models.com for the free plug on his newsletter this weekend.  If you need to do some Christmas shopping for yourself or a loved one, stop by and give them a try.  Back in October, I stopped by their store in West Jordan (Salt Lake City) Utah, and bought a hard to find Koster conversion kit for the A-20.  The staff was incredibly friendly, and cordial.  This web storeis one of the BEST on the web both in terms of price, and service.  I have been a customer for four years or so, and have yet to find a better web store.  Highly recommended.  Tonight we also have spent time revamping the Denver/RobWolf IPMS Chapter page.  This is the "Chapter of Champions", my term not theirs.  They have placed at least one model every year at Nats (IPMS National Competition) for the past 31 years.  Stop by and see some of the artistry, and some of the future competition for Nats.  This link takes you to photos from the October 2001 Meeting.  Also Everett McEwan is back with a Diorama of an A-6 in the US Navy & Marine Aircraft Model Gallery that will knock your socks off.  Great Job Everett!!!  Tomorrow look for a revamping of the Spitfire walk around.  We are going to add about 45 photos of the same aircraft.  This Vickers Spitfire would be a conversion that would turn heads at a meeting!!  Time allowing, look for a special tribute on Friday for the 60th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor in the Pearl Harbor Battle Birectory, and in the Walk Around Section.
Cheers
Mike

Nothing really new tonight, I did not get a chance to scan the Spitfire walkarounds, or organize the FA-18 Walkarounds or the myriad of other stuff still waiting to be posted, so instead, here is the end to our "Pursuit of the perfect car episode" stated a few nights ago.  I believe we could call this story " Poverty Sucks, and here's proof. "  The truth is, it has been a very good year for us in our household.  US-Aircraft.com is part of that goodness, and both of us have been very blessed at our chosen professions. We are honored to be able to share this small token, and dream come true with all of you.
Cheers
Mike
11/27/01
OK...Let's Review...Tonight we bring you some new book reviews, and the first of many Kit Reviews.  We are also revamping the IPMS page.  First I review the books SBD Dauntless in Detail and Scale by Burt Kinzy, and then Midway 1942 by Mark Healy.  Then Al Gonzales, reviews building the Hobbycraft P-40B, and Earl Hosmer reviews both the Hasagawa A-4, and also compares in a Skyhawk shootout with the Hobbycraft offering in the same scale.  Both these fine craftsmen are from the Denver/Rob Wolfe IPMS Chapter (The Chapter of Champions)  Did you know that Denver has placed winners every year for the last 31 years at Nationals?  We have!!!  Also of note, with hopefully a photo to be placed tomorrow, the search for the perfect Automobile has ended successfully!!!  We have procured a vehile that if it had wings, it WOULD fly.
Cheers
Mike and Tanya

Oh boy!!! twice in a week!  US-Aircraft.com is back in fine style!  Tanya says I need to give her a raise for all the great work she does.  Whaddya say?  10%  (she is saying that 10% of nothing is still nothing.....some people!)  Anyways due to her expertise, and allowing me to play mix and match we bring you the following Walkaround/Digital Tour of the exterior of B-24A/LB-30 Diamond Lil .  Speaking of B-24s in Sandy Pink Battle Dress, Deniz Karacay brings us 2 book reviews.  The first on Black Thursday, the next on Ploesti.  Also for an interesting sidelight, I have posted in the Family album of the Family Photos Section, the official US Army photo taken of my first live fire of a Lance Missile in 1987 down at White Sands, NM Firing Range.  My Platoon (I was the LT.) shot the missile closest to the camera, and as the photo was snapped, the missile was already doing over Mach 2!!!  (the most fun you can have with your pants on....Nuclear Bottle Rockets!  If you are following the car purchase story...tonights installment....We are within $400 of a deal for something that if it did have wings, it would be classified as a light jet.  Photos obviously to follow.  Cheers!!
11/25/01
OK, So it has been another month of higgelty pigglety in the Kingdom known as US-Aircraft.com.  A happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and in between Thanksgiving, a month's worth of travel for me, and the never ending security work that the September attacks have laid at my feet, and looking for a new car, we managed to get an update or two done.  First November 6 saw the addition of the Enduring Freedom Bulletin Board for anyone wanting to post anything about the war against terrorism...just keep it civil please.  This weekend, tonight, we have for your viewing, and modeling pleasures, another Digital Tour.  This time of the B-29 "FIFI".  I hope you like it.  Cheers!!!
10/22/01
Well here is part II, I know this is been breathlessly anticipated. Here is what the rest of the LB-30 of the Confederate Air force known as "Diamond Lil" looks like.....(tour courtesy of my not as heavy as it once was wallet, and the company digital camera)  Here is the B-24A/LB-30 passenger cabin.  Cheers all!
10/21/01
Well FINALLY we get some decent updates done!!!  Soccer is coming to a close, so hopefully things will slow down.  Tonight we bring you the next digital tour  Step on up, pay your 2 sheckles, and visit the B-24 A/LB-30digital tour.  Part one.
10/16/01
Today we bring you a unique look at the training of a test pilot.  The United States Airforce has a Test Pilot School at Edwards AFB in California.  I happen to have a sister who is wing Stan-Eval Navigator at Edwards (and just made the list for Major too!!  Congratulations Lynn!!), and her husband (Captain Andy Freeborne) is going through test pilot school.  His class has developed a website that takes you through both their curriculum, and the fun nuttiness that is part and parcel to the brotherhood of arms.  You will have to hit the back button to return to US-Aircraft.com, or better yet...just book mark us.  Now without further ado, I present for your pleasure United States Airforce Test Pilot School  class TPS-01A
10/05/01
We are approaching the 10,000 visitor mark according to the "official" counter on the front page/index page.  Although Internal Data  suggests we have more, we are sticking with this counter until we surpass the mark.  In order to celebrate this milestone, I am giving away a kit (1/48) of either a Tamiya F4U Birdcage Corsair, an Eduard P-39 (E/F) Aircobra kit, or a Monogram P-51 Kit (for those who like to collect old kits) to the 10,000th visitor.  If you arer it, take a screen shot, and email it to me at rockavenger@hotmail.com or to usaircraftphotos@yahoo.com  with your name, address, and kit choice.  (their webmail services are better than the hosting service's for jpegs)  Good luck and good viewing!!!  and above all....thanks!!!!

09/19/01

Ok, so you have been to the air shows, and seen the cockpit photos.  What's it like to fly one of these birds?  Tonight I will present to you some photos I shot a few years back while flying rear seat in a T-6G, (this one just happens to be the 2000 Grand Champion of Sun N Fun for Best Restoration (if I recall correctly)  It is owned by Dick Jones of Englewood, Colorado.  Happy Landings.  Per the Army Air Forces bulletin board, I got to spend a weekend with FIFI, and Diamond Lil (shhhhh don't tell the other ladies) and I took about 450 photos.  I am currently sorting through all the shots, and trying to organize them into another Digital Tour for your enjoyment.  I hope you will like the results.  I was able to get a bunch of great detail shots of the LB30/C-87 interior nose before they noticed I was inside.  give me a few days, and I will have them posted  Remember that is about 450 shots!!!!!  That is enough brain damage for any man who is shooting 2 beauty queens!!!

09/16/01
We must get back to living life.  Please give if you can at any of the sites below.  The help and assistance has been overwhelming, and it is good to see that the good people who never make a sound know when to step up, and say enough is enough, and also to put their backs into it.  Tonight I thought I would try to bring a bit of levity to everyone after a horrible week.  In that vein, I bring you the first installment of airshow photos from my personal collection.  I hope you don't mind that "yours truly" figures prominently in more than a few of them, but there may just be something a modeler needs in those shots, so I have included them, along with a bit of small commentary.  Enjoy!! - Mike

Well today we bring you the first itineration of our digital tour of the B-17G Sentimental Journey.  Please bear with us, as we are still working with the order of the shots to give it a more fluid feel, and there are one or two that are misplaced.  We will correct them tonight.  Also we added more shots to the F-15E, and the Hawker Sea Fury pages.  I would also like to introduce you to the Aircraft Resource Center.  These folks are great for walkarounds, kit information, and other information.  They are in our links section.  We are also making some cosmetic changes to make it easier to navigate.
08/27/01
Lots of walkarounds tonight.  I will get right to it, and not bore you with excess.  First we have a P-40N for you.  There will be more photos of this aircraft soon.  We also added, walkarounds of a F-80 Shooting Star, F-86 Sabre, P-51D Mustang, F-15E; and a new section called Foreign Aircraft which features some Russian, and British Aircraft.  If you don't see the shot you need for your kit, relax, we have a LOT more, but wanted just to whet your appitite for what is to come soon.  Also for your enjoyment, check out the new  Home_Movies in the family photos section.  Grab the popcorn, and a soda, relax, and enjoy something better than your neighbor's trip to the farm.  These are the sites and sounds of Sentimental Journey and a few other warbirds that visited Denver lately.  Cheers!
08/22/01
Another walk around for you tonight.  Do you want to build that new Classic Airframes Lockheed Hudson?  If you need to get some photos, check out our Walk arounds page.  We have a Lockheed B-34 which is a Hudson variant.  One of our viewers has pointed out though it is actually a Lockheed PV-1 Harpoon just made up to look like a Hudson.  Anyways, tonight we bring you a Lockheed C-60 Loadstar variant of the Hudson.  There will be more coming in the next few days including full shots of the cockpit.  Enjoy.
08/21/01
Finally we have for your viewing pleasure the first of many Walk Arounds and photos gathered in the last month or so.  We start out tonight with a set of photos of the
A-26 Invader.  There are actually photos of 2 different aircraft.  The first photo is from an A-26 at the B-24 Memorial Museum in Pueblo, Colorado.  The balance of the photos are from the A-26 located at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City South Dakota, USA.  Next we have photos of various DC-3s I have had the opportunity to fly on, or photograph.  The balance again are from Elsworth, AFB, but there are also photos of the Static DC-3 at the B-24 Museum, and the War Eagles Museum cockpit in Alamagordo, NM.  I threw in a few shots I took from an Air Power West DC-3 when we were flying to an airshow a few years back.  Last and certainly not least, a COMPLETE walk around with full interior shots of a fully restored and flying Air Power West aircraft.  Bob Heckendorf's Cessna
A-37B Dragon Fly.  OK, I want to see some super detailing out there!  Cheers!
08/16/01
Tonight we review Yanks Over Europe by Jerome Klinkowitz.  It is a different take on the European Air War.  Secondly, when is a Walk around not a walk around?  When it just a Family_Photos addition.  I have posted 11 photos of a Holloman AFB F-117Stealth Fighter that I took at an airshow at Peterson AFB Colorado Springs, CO in August of 1997.

8/15/01

Is the anticipation building yet of new walk arounds?  I PROMISE they are coming.  Tonight we review 2 books by Barrett Tillman.  TBD Units of the US Navy and Wildcat Aces of WWII .  Both are from Osprey Publishing, and are worth having.  We also have added links to Orion Model Accessories for those who build modern combat jets, and a link to Author Alan Carey's site, US Navy Pacific-Based PB4Y Squadrons in WWII .  Alan is best known for books such as The Reluctant Raiders, and Over an Angry Sea.  Check out the Naval/Marine Aircraft Bulletin Board, Alan also stops by, and needs some photos right now of the Lockheed PV-1 for his next book.  Help him out!
08/13/01
Tonights web update is the much anticipated follow-through of the Pre-war colors research.  This time Naval and Marine Aircraft Colors from 1911 through 1941. Thrill to the most colorful aircraft ever concieved by the minds of men anywhere on the planet.  I did manage to shoot over 250 photos this last weekend of a B-17, F-15E, FA-18, and Panavia Tornado.  These will be posted in the next few days, as time allows.  Stay tuned.
08/09/01
OK, so you have read the first installment of the "Battle Colors" research page, and now you want to paint your 1:1, 1:32, 1:48, 1:72, etc. model...(1:1 for those who are confused = the real thing...an airplane)  Presented for your viewing pleasure, I ask your kind indulgence to enjoy COLOR Chips.  Prewar Color chips as scanned from the Monogram Aviation Publication US Army Air Service, and Army Air Corps 1908 - 1941.  I will be adding a section on Naval Aircraft in the next few days, since the research is basically finished.  There are some changes also coming to clarify the information presented in the first installment.  Dana Bell has given kind permission to fully utilize the notions from the books!  Thanks Dana (now go buy his books to help out!!!)

08/04/01
Well, if you live in Colorado, in the good ole' USA, August is a great time of the year for Aviation traditionally.  Airshows, and other tidbits make this a great month.  Check out whats happening locally in the Local events section.  We have all the World War 2 Heavies of the US Army Air Corps Flying through in the next few weeks, and some other interesting warbirds on the wing.  Tiger Meet 2001 is in town also!!!  Get out the camera, and the video machines.  Lots to see and film.  If you want an event in YOUR area posted all you have to do is send me an e-mail at mgawell@us-aircraft.com

07/24/01

Attention all modellers from 1:1 to 1:??? scale.  If you need to paint your subject in aircraft colors pre-Pearl Harbor, then check out the re-tooled Reseach Section and Battle Colours Article by Michael Gawell.  The first installment describes Army Colors from 1908 through December of 1941 with COMPLETE FS595B notations!!!.

07/18/01

3 Months and doing well!!  Thanks to everyone for the visits.  TELL YOUR FRIENDS, Colleagues, and anyone else interested in aviation.  Well the scanner at home is finally fixed, so that should make updating a bit easier.  You have no idea of the behind the scenes hoops that have been jumped to get the rest of this stuff up.  Tonight we have posted a few new pictures on the Pearl Harbor the Movie page, that are from Aviation Classics dated April of 2001.  It will give you an idea of the differences between Hollywood, and actual history.  Look at the BF-109, DC-3, and P-40 Pages.  We also posted for people an article that was in Scale Aircraft Modelling last year on the US aircraft of Pearl Harbor.  I had intended to launch this with my own research, and primer on camouflage of US aircraft from 1917 through 1942, but I am still not finished, and it is becoming a monster of a research article.  I may break it into a Army, and Navy section.  I promise to have it done soon.

07/12/01

What does a guy have to do to get submissions!!!!!  We have graciously borrowed from Accurate Minatures Web Site a photo of their splendid B-25 Doolittle Raider.  I would LOVE to get more submissions for this little "theater project".  Now that Vacation and NATS are over, I am going to seriously get cracking on the research articles of USAAF, and USN colors...get those FS 595s ready!!!  We also added more photos of the Pearl Harbor Movie, Zeros, Vals, and Kate Replicas courtesy of Model Art's excellent Pearl Harbor Profile, and the Disney studios. Lastly and most certainly most importantly, Jim Szabo's excellent P-40b (2 shots) was added to the P-40 Pearl Harbor Gallery Page.  The scanner is fixed, so much to come soon.  I have PILES of information from my dad to go through, and a box of LIFE magazines from the 40s.  I wonder, just when does a web site OWN the owner?

06/23/01

So you have seen the movie...and were left wanting.  Was it the periods of predictable romance, the cavorting across the evening Hawaiian sky with a P-40 built for 2, or was it really deep down inside the knowledge that the colors of the aircraft were just plain incorrect!  How about the infamous Trans-Atlantic train to England or maybe it was the Trans-Pacific DC-3 that bugged you?  Here is your chance to compare SIDE BY SIDE the movie, and models of the real thing in true Twenty-First Century technicolor glory.  We present to you the viewer, at your very own website:  PEARL HARBOR:  REEL History vs. REAL History.  To make this interesting, we have made it like a movie bill.  Also in the spirit of informing the difference between REEL history, and REAL history, in the supporting cast we have included a list of all aircraft we could ascertain were at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.  I the humble owner of the site am asking, NAY, BEGGING you the viewer, to assist in filling this gallery with the model aircraft, and the other assorted fun (like the train to England) to make this a complete "Work of Art"  Submit your gallery models to:  models@us-aircraft.com  We also did a few minor changes to the opening page, and for now have deleted the US ships index.  I am in dire need of a ship expert out there to assist in the effort to bring the USN side of the house up to standards, before I present it to you as the viewer.  We need ship histories, photos, models, reviews etc.  Can you help?  E-mail me at mgawell@us-aircraft.com  This last week, we finally went over 5000 visitors.  To one and all, all I can say is THANK YOU.  Lets shoot for 10,000 no later than August 30, 2001.  Cheers, and let's kick the tires, and light the fires!!!  Mike

06/7/01
Everett McEwan brings us an owalkaround of an F-16.  Over 40 images!!!  Burt Kinzy of Detail and Scale oughta hire this guy!
05/25/01
Deniz Karacay honors us with two book reviews tonight.  American Spitfire I and II.  Since the "Movie of the summer" Pearl Harbor premiers today, and feeling my writing muse also, I have reviewed several books tonight on Pearl Habor. All these reviews can be found in The Library.   Also added some of the best museums in the United States, and Australia to the museum directory.  Started a reconstruction of the Airpower West Page.  Never fear the photos shall return but won't take as long as MacArthur did to go back to the Phillipeans. Tonight we start with the story of Airpower West.
